At Mileham Psychiatric Services in Wichita, we proudly offer SPRAVATO® (esketamine) CIII nasal spray, a groundbreaking treatment option for those struggling with severe depression. SPRAVATO® is a nonselective, noncompetitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, which is a type of ionotropic glutamate receptor. This innovative medication represents a first-of-its-kind approach, approved by the FDA to address two subpopulations within major depressive disorder (MDD) that have high unmet needs.
SPRAVATO® is specifically approved in the United States, in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, to treat adults who are dealing with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This condition affects individuals who have not found relief from their depressive symptoms despite trying multiple traditional antidepressants. Additionally, SPRAVATO® is approved to treat depressive symptoms in adults with MDD who are experiencing acute suicidal ideation or behavior, offering a rapid and effective intervention for those in crisis.
Our Wichita-based Spravato Treatment Center is dedicated to providing this advanced therapy to those who need it most. If you or a loved one in Wichita is struggling with treatment-resistant depression or severe depressive symptoms, contact us to learn more about how SPRAVATO® could be a part of your path to recovery.
While SPRAVATO® and ketamine are chemically related, SPRAVATO® is not the same as IV ketamine. Only SPRAVATO® has undergone extensive controlled clinical trials that informed the FDA approval of the medicine for use in adults with TRD and to treat depressive symptoms in adults with MDD with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.
• The effectiveness of SPRAVATO® in preventing suicide or in reducing suicidal ideation or behavior has not been demonstrated. Use of SPRAVATO® does not preclude the need for hospitalization if clinically warranted, even if patients experience improvement after an initial dose of SPRAVATO®.
• SPRAVATO® is not approved as an anesthetic agent. The safety and effectiveness of SPRAVATO® as an anesthetic agent have not been established.
